About SamI work with individual clients on a short or long-term basis and I am experienced in dealing with a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, loss, self-esteem and relationship problems. I have completed a 5-year training in psychotherapy from Regent’s College, London, where I gained an MA in Counselling & Psychotherapy and an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy. I am a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and I am accredited by the UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy). I adhere to the UKCP Code of Ethics and my work is regularly supervised by a senior practitioner. I am committed to ongoing personal and professional development. In addition to my private therapy practice I have worked as a consultant on workplace matters and as the manager of a counselling team. I was a counsellor for some years with the mental health charity Mind, where I also supervised trainee counsellors. I have a background of working in mental health and drug and alcohol services. My approach is holistic and integrative, drawing on various approaches including the warmth and ‘realness’ of the person-centered counselling relationship, the pragmatic solution focus of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (or 'CBT') and the depth of the psychodynamic therapies. I also have an interest in Focusing and Focusing-oriented therapy. You will find that I emphasise the whole person, in relationship with the world and others, rather than focusing on isolated symptoms or problems. |
